How knowledge management and collaborative community portals can add substantial business value - Lowe and Partners Worldwide Case Study, Ruth Knight, Sales and Marketing Director, VYRE Ltd

Lowe & Partners Worldwide is an advertising agency with worldwide presence that has over 80 agencies in 54 different countries. It is part of global advertising and marketing services conglomerate Interpublic based in New York, offering brand consulting, creative development and campaign management services and other marketing communications services. Clients include Unilever, Nestle, Nokia, Johnson & Johnson, and Coca Cola.

After some rapid expansion in the 90s Lowe was faced with several challenges as many of the agencies used different IT systems. This made group communication (with other agencies or management), knowledge management and knowledge sharing and collaboration very difficult and at times even impossible. However, the advertising business is about creativity and brilliant work only happens when talent, ambition and focus come together in a collaborative culture. Lowe therefore teamed up with VYRE to face and overcome these challenges. The end result is the multi-award-winning "Lowe Go" portal, which has won Best Intranet at the British Computer Society Awards in December 2006 as well as Most Effective Use of IT in Professional Services, and Most Effective Use of Information at The Information Age Effective IT
Awards in June 2007.

During the presentation we examine the business benefits of collaboration portals and knowledge management in terms of how this can help with generating ideas and review creative work, and how it can help when pitching or working on other campaigns. We also look at the advantages of transferring offline processes online such as digital showreels, DAM, real time editing.
