Car Design News Launch

28.09.2006 15:33

VYRE is pleased to announce the launch of the car design news website.Car Design News is the largest media in car design, read in every car brand’s design studio world wide.

The deployments core objective was to deliver a technology infrastructure that supports Car Design News planned innovation and growth. The project has adopted a phased approach, with phase one concentrating on replacing and improving existing site functionality and the technology infrastructure.

“Car design news provides breaking news to the automotive industry and it was increasingly clear that the old technology was restricting the not only the speed at which content was published but future innovation. The introduction of Unify has enabled us to safeguard our subscription model from abuse, increase the speed and ease of use of content creation and provide a platform that will enable us to deliver premium services and content to our members”
Sam Livingstone, Director Car Design News

Phase One, Key Benefits:

  • Improvements to the subscription model in order to control access and account sharing to prevent account abuse
  • Consolidation of content to a content management solution so that content creation can be managed across an international contributor base
  • Better classification and management of content with taxonomy and metadata
  • Increased dynamic publishing to ensure content remains fresh
  • The introduction of visual editing with content editable templates providing maximum ease of use for editors
  • Improvements in the management of members
  • Design Improvements
  • Utilising Unify's DAPS server to better manage rich media content
  • Addition of RSS feeds to members

Due to the highly visual nature of the content subject, the site incorporates thousands of images, which appear in news stories, galleries and design portfolios. Prior to the new site these images where managed in an offline folder system, which had no associated metadata. The deployment of Unify's digital assets processing server (DAPS) has significantly improved the management of images, as now a wide range of file services and transformations are run on images as they are uploaded and metadata is automatically extracted from IPTC and EXIF files, allowing for meaningful searches on the image files.

The introduction of visual editing, a feature which is unique to Unify, enables editors to create content in a environment which is exactly the same as the site page, greatly enhancing ease of use and content creation time.

Phase two of the project is soon to commence and during this phase Car Design News will be concentrating on adding new services and features to members, such as a annual design competition, conference and paid portfolio service. In the future Car Design News also intend to add podcasts and video footage of shows enhancing the value of their content to members.
