New features include bulk editing, import module and AJAX functionally.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, 02 October 2007, London, UK. VYRE Ltd, developer of leading-edge content management solution VYRE Unify, today announced the release of version 4.3.1, an update to its enterprise class web platform.

The new feature release is a major leap towards creating the perfect online environment for content managers with powerful new features that include: bulk editing, import module and AJAX functionality.

VYRE Unify

VYRE Unify is a leading content management platform which enables the delivery of rich, personalised sites quickly and easily without relying on specialist programming expertise.

What is new in 4.3.1?

Bulk update portlet

Most notably, version 4.3.1 introduces a powerful new capability for handling bulk updates. Bulk editing has been a frequent request from clients, as they manage ever increasing volumes of content and seek to devolve the management burden from technical to non technical users.

This new portlet allows non technical users to perform the following bulk updates in a user-friendly web based form:

  • Update content attributes
  • Add or remove items from taxonomy categories
  • Perform item linking (replace or merge)
  • Perform user linking (replace or merge)

In short, non technical users can now perform searches, gather content items in a basket and then update certain attributes such as publish status or archive dates for hundreds of items in bulk.

Other enhancements

Various other enhancements have also been introduced in this new version.

Importing and exporting: The new version adds to the range of features for importing and exporting content using XML or CSV files. You can now easily set up automated import scripts for integrating with 3rd party content repositories.

Taxonomy: Taxonomy trees can often grow to thousands of categories. A new feature of version 4.3.1 now allows users to import taxonomy structures instead of entering them in manually. This adds extra convenience and efficiency saving users time and effort.

Improved support for translation and localisation: A new portlet is now available, which lists localisations, and allows users to add, edit or delete localisation keys. This improves the ability to delegate translation work within the system. It also offers users a much more user-friendly, flexible and efficient way of managing the localisations of multilingual web applications.

Performance enhancements: Javascript and CSS can now be compressed on deployment. As this saves bandwidth, it makes the delivery to mobiles much more efficient.

AJAX API and searching: AJAX content gateways were launched in version 4.3. VYRE Unify now also supplies improved methods for filtering content on web pages. In this version settings have been included in the Search Portlet for users to manually sort lists of content on-the-fly.

Updates: VYRE Unify uses a variety of open source projects. The software has been upgraded to Spring 2, the latest version of Lucene search, and the TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor.

The Roadmap

The VYRE development team has been working very hard after the summer holidays and a great deal of exciting new features are on the roadmap. The highlights include JSR 170 content repositories and some amazing enterprise search functionality based on open source technology.
