Mick will be straight back from Gartner's annual flagship ITxpo Symposium, where analysts examine the strategic implications of fast-evolving technologies, breakthrough approaches and industry trends. Building on this and his many years of experience and knowledge in WCM, Mick will be giving us the latest trends, tips and advice on Web Content Management, and how organisations can leverage content to drive profits and business success.

We are also very excited about the practical case study presentation by VYRE client The National Trust. The Trust chose VYRE to supply Content Management software and services to its e-Engagement programme. The programme is delivering a digital presence to meet the organisation's current and predicted future digital engagement needs. This requires different content, a high level of interactivity, user involvement and a new approach to the delivery of The National Trust's websites.

We will finish off the event with our Panel Discussion: Ask the Experts: "Best practice advice to ensure WCM success". This will give delegates an excellent opportunity to pick our experts' brains and get best practise advice, hints and tips for their WCM projects and initiatives while also learning how to avoid common pitfalls.

The economic climate has forced a rethink of established habits and preconceptions. Web content management is now at the heart of mission critical components of IT strategies. Through decisive leveraging of content, Web Content Management initiatives can be turned into a profit centre and 'information' can be repositioned as a pivotal ingredient to any business' success. The session examines:

  • Key market trends that are changing the landscape of content management
  • Emerging technologies that will play an important role in the evolution of content management
  • Best practices which businesses can follow in order to maximise success and profitability with Web Content Management

Mick MacComascaigh is a research director with Gartner Research, the lead analyst for Web Content Management, and responsible for the IT leaders for Enterprise Content Management (ECM) in Germany.

Before joining Gartner, Mick was responsible for business development and strategic ECM consulting for Central Europe and key clients.

Case Study: "Getting to an agile and engaging web presence" - Steve Atkinson, Business Analyst, The National Trust

The National Trust struggled with an image of being traditional and backward looking - and the web presence was only confirming that. A small web team struggled increasingly to meet the demands of the organisation. Technology-wise, the Trust was heavily dependent on external suppliers and siloed developments by different departments led to a lack of integration and costly technical instability.

An e-Engagement approach was hence developed and the Trust chose VYRE to supply content management software and services.  The programme will provide:

  • Engagement -engage with supporters in multiple ways, positioning the Trust as forward-looking, open and accountable;
  • Technical - provide the foundation to join up disparate websites, extranets, intranet with integrated supporter data and seamless online experience;
  • Staff Capability and Capacity - create a team with the right tools and skills to deliver the e-Engagement strategy;
  • Financial - underpin existing online income, support online retention and self service functionality.

The Trust has already succeeded in building a digital media team of 20 people, implementing numerous tactical microsites to test ideas and technologies, and improving technology services through its new content management solution. Work continues on a website relaunch, managing content, personalisation and customisation.

Steve Atkinson is a Business Analyst working in the Digital Media Team at the National Trust. Since the formation of this new team in 2007 he has worked on the development of the web strategy, the selection and implementation of a new web content management system and content strategy, implementation of a new web accessibility and usability strategy and the integration of the Trust's CRM system into the web to provide online supporter management.

Prior to joining the Digital Media Team Steve has implemented tactical systems to stabilise the Trust's website, delivered a new Jobs website, managed the development of accessible virtual tours used at our properties, and worked on the selection and implementation of the Trust's CRM system.
