An Introduction to JSON

I'm hoping to share my learning experience of JSON with the rest of you out there who, like me, have heard the word JSON (pronounced Jason) being thrown into conversation, documentation or elsewhere but have always been shy as to ask who this amazing JSON person is. In fact you've probably even seen JSON code, probably even understood it, but never put it into practice or had it explained to you.

Selling Social Networking to The Business

This is one of the most talked about pieces of new communication technology, which grabs the immediate interest of most businesses from C level down. However in today's tough economic climate the whole concept can prove hard to justify by most CFOs. Focus of most purchasing decisions is now firmly based on strong compelling ROI with a positive effect on the bottom line within a year of implementation. Nice-to-haves are no longer expectable in our current climate.

Is Google Wave the next big thing?

One of my favourite stories about London is about the Millennium Dome and a visiting French President. After being shown around the dome just before the year 2000 celebrations, the President looks squarely at his guide, and says "Yes, very impressive... but what is it for?". This was almost my exact reaction upon seeing Google Wave for the first time. It looked pretty, and the Google employees presenting the technology seemed reasonably enthusiastic, and it seemed to have some neat features. But I was still left wondering what on earth it would be used for.

Welcome to Macinto...err... iPad. Again.

This is not about the iPad's features, or a review of what the iPad will be like to use, or what's missing, or what next year's model might add, or anything. That's been covered/speculated many times over. But what about the bigger picture with the iPad... or rather, behind the iPad? What is it really meant to be, this new device? What is the over-arching vision behind it?

Recently the VYRE core development team held an internal workshop to discuss and brainstorm about future technologies and our long term plans for staying ahead of the curve in that space. No, sorry I won't be revealing the amazing secret action plans we came up with. Instead I want to write about an anti-pattern I noticed in how people judge problems and solutions.

Clients: Making a good first impression

You only have one chance to make a good impression. The first impression may begin with a phone call, them viewing your portfolio, an initial meeting or email. Whatever the method of contact, making a good first impression boils down to how you portray yourself and/or your work.

iPad - the void in my life has gone

I've been nurturing a void in my life for a few months now to make space for the long anticipated iTablet/iSlate/iPad from Apple. On the 27th January Steve Jobs put an end to all the rumours and speculation - the iPad was launched.
