Content Management
Our focus has been on content enabled applications, which means that we have all the functionality you come to expect from a Content Management as well as a Digital Asset Management solution. We have years of experience in managing traditional web content as well as rich media, video, audio and documents. At the end of the day if you work with content, it should not matter whether it’s video or text.
You can create and define the structure for multiple content repositories, and file transformations for images, video and documents. All of this is possible in minutes within a web interface with the click of a button.
Publishing
We consider the publication of content to be an integral part of its management. Our main focus is online delivery. In Unify you can build multiple websites consisting of pages based on templates. You have full control of the HTML code, CSS and Javascript. And the clever part is how you publish your content to multiple pages and sites by placing portlets and defining publication rules.
Today online delivery includes syndication, sharing and ingesting content from 3rd parties. As all of our content is managed as XML, you can configure RSS feeds as well as specialised content gateways in minutes. Other publishing channels include print, mobile devices, email messages and we also do some instant messaging.
Users and Groups
You can’t manage content without thinking about users as part of the equation. Content is created, maintained and signed off by individuals. You can define your own standard Unify user groups within our application or connect to your existing ones. Many of our clients have one repository for their own clients but use their LDAP directories for managing access for internal employees.
Once you have users set up it’s easy to create groups and control granular permissions for websites, pages and down to fields within forms.

Modules - Portlets
We have been working with modules since 1997. When we rewrote the application from the ground up as Unify 4.0 we chose the Portlet Industry Standard (JSR 168) for implementing the user interface.
If you look at 100 websites, intranets or extranets and ignore the design, you will end up with a set of common design patterns. These include navigation, lists, detail view, search, login, forms and image galleries. This is exactly what we have done for the Unify interface. We have developed roughly 50 portlets which you can use to configure any web based application of your choice.

Open Standards
We support open standards and do participate in multiple open source projects. Unify is a JEE application. We have built roughly 50 portlets using the JSR 168 Portlet Standard and we use the eXo Portal container as a wrapper.
Search plays a very important role in the overall design of the application and we use Lucene as our search framework of choice. Database extraction is handled using Hibernate, and we use Spring for development. We also use a great mix of front end applications like Tiny MCE for WYSIWYG, applet for file upload and a couple of javascript libraries for some other bits and bobs.
